This training will discuss the role of bacteria in wound care and the management of infection in wounds. Time will also be spent on the prevention of infection.

  • Explain the impact of bacteria on wounds including biofilm formation
  • Define wound contamination, colonization and infection
  • Identify the signs and symptoms of an infected wound
  • Explain when to use topical or systemic antimicrobials
  • Reiterate the importance of prevention of infection
